Library Open House!

Happy Holidays! The Blooming Grove Community Library is tickled pink to invite everyone to join us on Saturday, December 10 for seasons greetings and cheer! The library will be open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM that day, and board members and volunteers will be available to greet visitors. Stop by, have a cup of spiced cider, say hello...and even sign out a book! Plus, parents who bring their children by will be able to choose a free book from selected titles.

In addition to the open house, there will be two different opportunities to provide a little financial support to the library while we're speading holiday joy. There will be a bake sale and your very last chance to purchase raffle tickets for the go-cart raffle. The winning ticket will be drawn that day (need not be presernt to win). Don't miss out! Tickets are $3 each or 2 for $5.

Brisket Fundraiser, October 14


Is your mouth watering yet?

On Friday, October 14, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Blooming Grove Masonic Lodge will be selling chopped brisket sandwiches and drinks in downtown Blooming Grove as part of its 3rd annual Brisket Fundraiser.

The sandwich sales are in addition to the deliveries of advance orders for brisket-by-the-pound. The window to pre-order brisket-by-the-pound has closed, but you can still get in on the good eating if you stop by on Friday.

It's nearly October, and in Blooming Grove, that means...

The Blooming Grove Ex-Students Association will be having activities on October 15, 2011.

  • 9:30 am to 11:30 am: The Blooming Grove City Council will host a meet and greet, complete with coffee and cookies. Take advantage to catch up and reminisce. 
  • 11:30 am to 1:00 pm: A barbeque lunch will be offered from at the Blooming Grove High School Cafeteria, hosted by the Blooming Grove Masonic Lodge. 
  • Also from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm: Registration will take place 
  • 1:30 to 3:00 pm: The program and business meeting will take place in the Blooming Grove High School Auditorium. During the program, the classes of 1951, 1961, 1971 and 1986 will be recognized and honored. It is hoped that each honored class will have one person give a brief two or three minute presentation to share their memories. Class members are encouraged to contact other class members and we hope for 100% attendance.
If you are unable to attend, we will be sorry to miss you, but you are still encouraged to continue to support this organization be sending your dues every year. Your support enables the organization to continue as well as support opportunities for today’s Blooming Grove Youth. Dues are $10.00. The current president is Richard Hinkle. Anybody out there ready to race? Who are the fastest milers in Navarro County?

The 3rd Annual Main Street Mile will be held in Blooming Grove on July 2nd at 10:30am, starting and finishing at the city park. (Just before the Parade begins!) All proceeds for the race will go to Blooming Grove ISD for new track and field record boards. It is $15.00 to enter the race and if you register before June 20th you get an awesome Mainstreet Mile t-shirt too. There will be race day registration from 9:00 to 10:00am. Trophies will be awarded to the top 5 Elementary and Jr. High boys and girls as well the top 2 finishers in each of the following divisions: Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior and Senior as well as 19-29, 30-39 and 40 and over. There will also be an overall Champion Award for top Male and Female Finisher. The race will start right before the famous BG Parade. Come and join in the fun!!

Independence Day Parade set for Saturday, July 2nd

The Blooming Grove Historical Society will sponsor a Fourth of July Parade on Saturday, July 2, down main street starting at 11:00 a.m. followed by an Independence Day Program in the City Park. Grand Marshalls will be Veterans of U.S. Armed forces who will also be honored in the ceremony in the park.  The program will include music, races, watermelon-seed spitting contest, a cookie walk, horse shoe pitching, raffles, and food, food, food.  Prizes will be awarded for best float, Most Patriotic Home, and Most Patriotic Dog!!

The Blooming Grove Fire Department will have hot dogs , cotton candy, lemonade, and will host a horseshoe tournament in the park following the Independence Day parade.

Talk of the town

I have been hearing lots of talk lately about some new business that are looking at our town as a place to open up business. But same as every one else I have herd this all before, Does anyone know if this time it has any more possibility of happening? or even what happened last time when this talk was going around.
